In response to recent developments regarding a data set released on the dark web, AT&T has taken proactive measures to address the situation. The telecommunications giant has confirmed that specific AT&T data fields were included in the data set, which surfaced approximately two weeks ago. However, whether the data originated from AT&T itself or one of its vendors remains unclear. Furthermore, the source of other personal information, such as social security numbers, is still under investigation.

To address these concerns, AT&T has launched a thorough investigation, drawing on the expertise of both internal and external cybersecurity experts. Preliminary analysis suggests that the data set dates back to 2019 or earlier, impacting an estimated 7.6 million current AT&T account holders and approximately 65.4 million former account holders.

AT&T reassures its customers that it takes data security seriously and is committed to safeguarding their personal information. The company urges affected individuals to remain vigilant and monitor their accounts for suspicious activity. Additionally, AT&T is taking proactive steps to enhance its cybersecurity measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.

As the investigation progresses, AT&T pledges to provide updates and support to affected customers. The company remains dedicated to maintaining transparency and ensuring the security and privacy of its customers’ data.
